Humanitarian Committee

The East Fishkill Fire District is made up of so many different people. We differ in so many ways, but in so many ways we are the same. We all care about our community and its resident’s which is why we are all volunteers.

We miss many a meal and lose a lot of family time going to fires, motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, fire prevention, the list is endless.

In the last few years we have added much more to that list. After hurricane Katrina we organized our first chili cook-off.  We raised money to help a fire department that lost everything, we even sent them a fire truck full of gear and tools.  We started a vegetable garden where we grow vegetables every year for the local food pantry.  We also have been working very closely with the Burn Center in Valhalla. This year at our chili cook-off we raised over $2000.00 to buy heat lamps for the patients and then went back and gave them a holiday party they will always remember.

This past year has also been a hard one for some of our members.  When one of our members is in need we all rush to be there and help in any way we can.  At times they just need a ride to an appointment and sometimes their needs are greater.

We often have fundraisers, some are for the department itself and others are for a member that has fallen ill or was hurt on a scene and some are to help those in need.  So we created The Humanitarian Committee. It is our goal to continue working with the Burn Center and The Fireman’s Home and to be able to reach out to our fellow firefighters in their times of need.
